SYNOPSIS
Colin Burstead has hired a country mansion for a New Year’s Eve party for his extended family and various hangers-on. But right from the start, things start to go wrong. His mother injures her ankle before she has even crossed the threshold. His father is desperately trying to secure a life-saving loan that Colin won’t grant him. His uncle is secretly ill and knows this could be the last time he sees his relatives. And his black sheep brother appears on the doorstep after an absence of five years with his new German girlfriend. Over the course of the evening, the family’s power dynamics will change forever.
DIRECTOR
Ben Wheatley
UK director Ben Wheatley started out directing live action sections of the TV series Modern Toss (Channel 4) followed by episodes of The Wrong Door and Ideal, both for the BBC. He made his first feature Down Terrace in 2009 and sealed a growing international reputation with Kill List (2011), the first of five films written and co-edited by Amy Jump. His third film Sightseers (2012) was selected for Directors Fortnight at Cannes and he became a fixture on the festival circuit with subsequent films A Field In England (2013), High-Rise (2015) and Free Fire (2016). Happy New Year, Colin Burstead had its world premiere at the London Film Festival in October.
