DIRECTOR
Alfonso Cuarón
Mexico’s Alfonso Cuaron made his directorial debut in 1991 with dark comedy Solo Con Tu Pareja (Love In The Time Of Hysteria) which was Mexico’s biggest hit of 1992. He made his first US feature in 1995 with A Little Princess, followed by a contemporary adaptation of Great Expectations (1998) starring Ethan Hawke and Gwyneth Paltrow. His return to Mexico in 2001 with road movie Y Tu Mama Tambien was a triumph and earned him and brother Carlos an Oscar nomination for original screenplay. Since then he has made a string of hit films including Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban (2004), Children Of Men (2006) and Gravity (2013) for which he won directing and editing Oscars. Roma had its world premiere in Venice competition in August this year and it won the festival’s top prize, the Golden Lion.
